Men learn that emotions, and emotional connection are, at best, distractions (unless they are a means to money or sex) and, at worse, anathema to true masculinity.
...if you don't like your therapist, and/or you think your therapist doesn't like you, you are not likely to experience the changes your are hoping for.
The question, at this point in history, while working our way out of a time when grief has been so pathologized, might be, how do we know when there is a problem with grief?
We have power to act and and to influence another person's journey with mental illness, but we do not have all the power.
Medication has its limits. It will not provide a healthy environment, social support, the tools to manage difficult situations, or to heal from major crisis or traumatic events and should not be solely relied on for these things.
My initial reactions to what I was seeing pointed out my own deeply entrenched stereotypes that rose up while watching the video. I expected the images to become darker, not lighter.
Suicide impacts all of us and speaks about who we are as a society. We can all work towards healing our society.
